Is it my imagination, or has the puzzle generating algorithm been tweaked recently to make them harder?
I've been working through archive puzzles from 2011. My average weekend puzzle time from the August 2011 I solved ALL the puzzles in under 10 minutes (well, one was 11m7s), but in August 2016 they are nearer the 20 minute mark, with just 2 under 10 minutes.
Like I say - it's not me aging, they've been done more or less in parallel. |

From time to time I've had that impression, as well. I'm quite skeptical that I won't be able to ever beat my current alltime record from a few years ago - that was a product of being younger, being lucky and performing exceptionally well in that week, and probably also puzzles being somewhat easier back then.

My guess is that not recently, but if compared to puzzles prior 2010, the weekend puzzles are much harder in average. There are allmost no weekends that would include 2 easy puzzles. In Monday - Friday puzzles the changes have been less noticeable |
