This pattern - I remember using it very regularly earlier last year, but maybe I'm dreaming, but I think I have stopped seeing it in use at all almost.
Anyone else noticed any changing usage of patterns in the puzzles over time? |

hrmm memory is a bit hazy, I just checked and found 5 instances in the last 14 puzzles. 2 of these had nearby 0's which trivially obliviated their usefulness completely. 1 of them I suspect I would have missed due to enough nearby numbers forcing the situation. But the other 2 are clearly useful cases of the pattern.
I think however, the real issue is that my memory of last year says that every second puzzle, if not more frequently, contained that pattern in a useful situation, often multiple times in the same puzzle on the weekends. I had it ranked up with pairs of 3's in the order in which I looked for patterns.
I haven't surveyed puzzles to check - but I guess that memory is more likely to be wrong. |
