Just wanted to say thanks for the little touches you have been adding recently.  The "back when this puzzle was part of the weekly challenge" addition to the archives is really nice.  Gives you a feel for how well you did.  Out of curiosity, when did you start persisting that info?

That started up a couple of weeks ago; I've only got times recorded since then but it's nice to be able to play old puzzles (especially if you miss them when they're "live") and find out if you got a decent time or not. Thanks to Stephen for suggesting this feature!

Another very minor change I've made: puzzles should now update at midnight GMT instead of midnight PST (8am GMT) as they used to. This means the date at the top of each page should now always reflect the current day's puzzle! Apologies in advance for any unforeseen problems, hopefully there won't be any.

Can I make a suggestion?

As well as displaying the top ten scores for each day in the current week, why not include a tally of how many people have completed each puzzle in total?

Also, (and I'm not just suggesting this because I'm concerned that I'm immenently about to lose a regular top 10 spot, honest!) how about, as well as the top 10 scores for the week & each day, being able to see the 10 scores around your score, or a completely scrollable list of all scores.  This would allow everyone to see how they are faring against those around them, and give more interest to players outside the top 10.

Yeah, I know it would be difficult, but go on, please?!

That was an easy one! At the bottom of each daily top 10, you'll now find the total number of solvers for that puzzle. The information isn't recorded beyond the current week, but I'll see if I can add it to the historical data for future reference.

I just discovered that leaderboard times were actually available right back to 24th August 2005, so I've updated this new feature to use them. Names of players who achieved those times only started being recorded a couple of weeks ago, so on the older puzzles you'll just get a time, but it's still nice to see if you've beaten the best.

Wow! Looking at those old times, you guys have _really_ improved over the months. Love the new features, foilman, thanks.

Is there any way we could get some sort of a scroll or pull-down menu to jump back to the "first" puzzles (rather than having to go back one week at a time in the archives)?  Or is it just my computer that won't let me do something like that?  That would be neat too...

Once you've pressed "Older" once, you'll see nd=<number> in the URL. That number determines where in the archive you're looking - if you replace the last three digits with 527, you get the beginning. So a normal bookmark should work for now, but you might have to be logged in _before_ you use it.

I'll definitely come up with some way of making it easier to go back through the archives! Back when the site began there weren't any archives, so I didn't put much thought into that part. But I do agree it now has to be easier...
